In 1853, Charles Loring Brace, a young minister, was distressed by the huge numbers of homeless, ragged, hungry children prowling the streets of New York City. Through his newly-formed Children's Aid Society, he organized an ambitious rescue effort that, during a span of 75 years, sent over 150,000 orphans by trains to Christian homes in the country. Through poignant interviews with elderly survivors, period photos and century-old letters from children, this remarkable documentary tells of the successes and failures of a little-known resettlement program.
